For the wife carrying what she never asked to carry

For Wives: When Your Husband's Secret Comes to Light

Whether you found pornography, learned of an affair, or uncovered something you are still trying to name, you are not alone, and you do not have to carry this by yourself.

First, take a breath

If you are reading this, something has broken open. Maybe you found something on his phone. Maybe he confessed. Maybe a stranger told you, or the truth came out a piece at a time and you are still waiting for the next piece to fall.

Whatever brought you here, hear this before anything else: what you are feeling is real, and it makes sense. Shock, rage, numbness, nausea, the urge to know every detail and the dread of knowing any of them — these are the normal responses of a heart that has been betrayed. You are not overreacting. You are not crazy. And this is not your fault.

"The Lord is near to the brokenhearted and saves the crushed in spirit." — Psalm 34:18

Your healing matters on its own

Most of the help out there is aimed at fixing him. Help for him matters, and B.O.L.D. exists to give it. But you are not a supporting character in his recovery. Your heart, your sleep, your body, your faith and your children all matter whether or not he ever changes.

That is why B.O.L.D. has a women's ministry, led by co-founder Amber Stewart, who walked through the devastation of betrayal in her own marriage. It is a place for prayer, encouragement and honesty, with women who understand without needing it explained. You can read Amber's story and reach her at B.O.L.D. for Women.

What we will not do: we will not tell you to "just forgive him and move on." We will not pretend you are fine when you are not. And we will not put your healing on hold while we work on his.

How B.O.L.D. helps your husband

B.O.L.D. (Brothers Overcoming Lustful Desires) is a Christian men's ministry, a 501(c)(3), built for men who are done living a double life. A man who is ready to change does not get a pamphlet. He gets a pack — four to six men and a leader who know his name, hear from him every day, and will not let him hide.

  • A daily check-in. One tap each day tells his pack how he is really doing — clear, tempted, or a setback.
  • Brothers who answer. When he is struggling, he has men to call before he falls, not after.
  • A path, not a lecture. A 52-week workbook, scripture, prayer and weekly meetings, aimed at the roots of the behavior, not just the behavior.
  • A guard on his devices, if he chooses it. The Watchman app is free. Watchman+ adds on-device blocking and alerts to his pack, and he can connect you so you are not left guessing.

He has to walk through that door himself. You cannot do his recovery for him, and you were never meant to. But you can show him where the door is.

Where you fit

You can be part of this without becoming his accountability partner. If he chooses Watchman+, he can connect you so you have your own side of the Watchman app and are told when he needs support. And you are welcome in the women's group whether or not your husband is in a pack yet.

A word about hope

Some marriages come back from this, and some come back stronger than they were. That takes a husband who stops hiding and does the work, a wife who is cared for rather than rushed, and time — usually more time than anyone wants. Reconciliation is something we hope and pray for. It is never something you owe anyone on a deadline.

"To grant to those who mourn in Zion — to give them a beautiful headdress instead of ashes." — Isaiah 61:3

Common questions

Is it my fault that my husband looked at porn or had an affair?

No. His choices are his. Many wives search their own appearance, their marriage and their past for the reason, but compulsive sexual behavior and betrayal grow from roots in a man's own heart and history. You can grieve, ask questions and set boundaries without taking on the blame.

Does B.O.L.D. help wives, or only husbands?

Both. The men's ministry gives a husband a pack of 4 to 6 men and a leader. The women's ministry, led by co-founder Amber Stewart, is a place for wives to pray, heal and be understood, whether or not their husband is in B.O.L.D. yet.

Can I make my husband join B.O.L.D.?

You cannot do his recovery for him, but you can tell him clearly what you need and show him where to start. Our guide on how to talk to your husband about getting help includes a short message and link you can send him.

What if I am afraid of my husband?

Your safety comes first. If you are in danger, call 911. The National Domestic Violence Hotline is 1-800-799-7233, or text START to 88788. No goal for the marriage asks you to stay quiet about harm.

Can our marriage survive this?

Many marriages do, and some come back stronger, when a husband stops hiding and does the work and a wife is cared for rather than rushed. Reconciliation is something to hope and pray for, never a deadline you owe anyone.
