The Word is the weapon
Scripture anchors
The verses we come back to. Memorize one. Then another. The Word is the weapon — "the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God" (Ephesians 6:17).
When the fight comes at 11 p.m. on a Tuesday, you don't have time to look something up. You have time to remember. Pick three from this list. Make them yours.
The founding verse
"The wicked flee though no one pursues, but the righteous are bold as lions."
— Proverbs 28:1
This is why we are called B.O.L.D. and why the lion is our mark.
Confession + healing
"Therefore, confess your sins to one another and pray for one another, that you may be healed. The earnest prayer of a righteous person has great power and produces wonderful results."
— James 5:16
This is our charter verse. Everything we do flows from it.
"If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness."
— 1 John 1:9
The enemy is real
"Stay alert! Watch out for your great enemy, the devil. He prowls around like a roaring lion, looking for someone to devour."
— 1 Peter 5:8
"They overcame him by the blood of the Lamb and by the word of their testimony."
— Revelation 12:11
Take your thoughts captive
"We demolish arguments and every pretension that sets itself up against the knowledge of God, and we take captive every thought to make it obedient to Christ."
— 2 Corinthians 10:5
The fight starts in your mind. It is won there or lost there.
Freedom is real
"So if the Son sets you free, you will be free indeed."
— John 8:36
"It is for freedom that Christ has set us free. Stand firm, then, and do not let yourselves be burdened again by a yoke of slavery."
— Galatians 5:1
"But now you are free from the power of sin and have become slaves of God. Now you do those things that lead to holiness and result in eternal life."
— Romans 6:22
Identity in Christ
"Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation. The old has passed away; behold, the new has come."
— 2 Corinthians 5:17
"I have been crucified with Christ. It is no longer I who live, but Christ who lives in me."
— Galatians 2:20
You are not alone
"Iron sharpens iron, so one man sharpens another."
— Proverbs 27:17
"Not neglecting to meet together, as is the habit of some, but encouraging one another, and all the more as you see the Day drawing near."
— Hebrews 10:25
"Take care, brothers, lest there be in any of you an evil, unbelieving heart, leading you to fall away from the living God. But exhort one another every day, as long as it is called 'today,' that none of you may be hardened by the deceitfulness of sin."
— Hebrews 3:12-13
Worship is warfare
"Around midnight Paul and Silas were praying and singing hymns to God, and the other prisoners were listening. Suddenly, there was a massive earthquake, and the prison was shaken to its foundations. All the doors immediately flew open, and the chains of every prisoner fell off."
— Acts 16:25-26
When all hope seems lost in that prison — WORSHIP.
God goes before you
"Do not be afraid or discouraged, for the LORD will personally go ahead of you. He will be with you; he will neither fail you nor abandon you."
— Deuteronomy 31:8
"The LORD is my rock, my fortress, and my savior; my God is my rock, in whom I find protection. He is my shield, the power that saves me, and my place of safety."
— 2 Samuel 22:2-4
The whole armor
"Finally, be strong in the Lord and in his mighty power. Put on the full armor of God, so that you can take your stand against the devil's schemes…"
— Ephesians 6:10-18
Read the whole passage. Belt of truth. Breastplate of righteousness. Shoes of the gospel of peace. Shield of faith. Helmet of salvation. Sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God. Then pray.
The Great Commission — why we do this
"Go therefore and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit."
— Matthew 28:19
How can a man go out and make disciples if he is chained up to sexual immorality? Get free. Then go free another man. Free men, free men.
Where two or three are gathered
"For where two or three are gathered together in My name, I am there in the midst of them."
— Matthew 18:20
This is why group size doesn't matter. One more man.
Free men, free men
