Made on Purpose, Made for Something

Ephesians 2:10

When a man has spent years hiding a habit, he starts to think of himself as a problem to be managed rather than a person made for a purpose. All the energy goes into damage control, into keeping the secret contained, and somewhere along the way he forgets that he was made for more than not failing. Paul writes, For we are his workmanship, created in Christ Jesus for good works, which God prepared beforehand, that we should walk in them. The word workmanship carries the sense of something crafted with care, a made thing that reflects the maker. You are not an accident God is stuck with. You are something he has been shaping, and he had a life in mind for you before you drew a breath. That life is not on hold until you are fully clean. There are good things prepared for you to walk into even now, in the middle of the fight, with the struggle unresolved. Your worth was never riding on your performance; it was set the day God decided to make you. Today, instead of only asking God to keep you from falling, ask him what he made you for, and take one small step toward it.
