When You Fall — And You Will
The men who finish this race are not the men who never fall. They are the men who never stay down.
"For the righteous falls seven times and rises again, but the wicked stumble in times of calamity." — Proverbs 24:16
Brother — you are going to fall. Especially in the first 90 days of this work. Most men do.
I am not telling you this to give you permission. I am telling you because if no one tells you in advance, the moment you fall the shame voice will tell you that you are not really a B.O.L.D. brother, you are a fraud, you should quit before they find out. That voice will be ready. I want you to be ready for that voice.
Here is the rule, and it is not negotiable:
Tell your team within 24 hours.
Not next week. Not at the next group meeting. Not when you have "processed it." Within 24 hours. Send the hand emoji. Tell your accountability brother specifically what happened. Let them pray over you. Do not isolate. Isolation is what got you here — it cannot be what gets you out.
Why 24 hours and not 48 or 72? Because shame is fast. The longer the fall stays in the dark, the more it metastasizes. By 48 hours you have started to construct the cover story. By 72 hours the cover story has become your reality. By a week you are back in the cave you climbed out of in Week 1, and you have to start over.
The 24-hour rule is the medicine that keeps the cave from re-forming.
What confession after a fall sounds like:
"Brothers — last night around 11pm I opened my laptop after Sarah went to sleep. I watched pornography for about 30 minutes and masturbated. I cleared the history before I closed the laptop. I thought about not telling you. I am telling you now. Will you pray over me, and will one of you call me at 9pm tomorrow?"
That is what kills the fall. Specific. Owned. Surrendered. Asking for the brother to be the brother.
What stays in the dark grows. What comes into the light dies. The cycle does not have to be your life.
And one more thing for the brother reading this who fell last night and is still under the weight of it: God is not surprised by you. He is not done with you. He is not turning away from you. The Holy Spirit is the one who put this article in front of you tonight, not the shame voice. The Father is running down the road toward you, not crossing His arms at the front gate. The thief wants you to stay where you are. The Father wants you to come home.
Get up. Tell your team. Walk back into the room.
The men who finish this race are not the men who never fall. They are the men who never stay down.
