Spiritual Warfare Is Real. Fight Like It.
The fight in your bedroom at 11pm is not just neurological and not just behavioral. It is spiritual. The sooner you take that seriously, the sooner the ground starts to shift.
"For we do not wrestle against flesh and blood, but against the rulers, against the authorities, against the cosmic powers over this present darkness, against the spiritual forces of evil in the heavenly places." — Ephesians 6:12
Brother, let me say something bluntly that the secular recovery world will not say to you: the fight you are in is not just a brain fight. It is a spiritual fight. You have an enemy. He has a strategy on your life. He is not metaphor.
I am not saying every temptation is a demon. I am not saying you cannot have a fall without a devil whispering in your ear. Most falls are a HALT cocktail meeting an old wiring (we talked about that last week). But under the wiring and under the HALT, there is a real enemy who is opportunistic, intelligent, and patient. He has watched you for forty years. He knows the room and the time and the day. He is the one who placed the thought in your head at exactly 10:43pm last Tuesday.
This is why we do not just talk about behavior change in B.O.L.D. groups. We bind strongholds. We break agreements with the enemy out loud. We declare scripture over each other. We pray with the laying on of hands over the brother who fell.
You have spent years operating in a fight you did not realize was spiritual. You brought self-help tools to a war zone. No wonder you are exhausted.
Three things to do this week.
1. Put on the armor every morning, out loud. Not a metaphor. Open Ephesians 6 and pray it on yourself. "I put on the belt of truth. I put on the breastplate of righteousness. I take the sword of the Spirit, which is the Word of God…" Do this in front of the mirror if it helps. Sound stupid? It is not. The men who do it consistently report a different felt-sense within 30 days.
2. Identify and break specific agreements you have made with the enemy. "I am a fraud." "I will never change." "This is just who I am." These are agreements with a lie. In your group meeting this week, name the agreement out loud and break it: "In the name of Jesus, I break my agreement with the lie that I am a fraud. I receive what God says about me — that I am a son, a new creation, a B.O.L.D. brother."
3. Have your brothers lay hands on you and pray. Specifically. Out loud. Over the strongholds you have named. The Holy Spirit shows up when His brothers do this for each other. Don't be embarrassed. The enemy loves your embarrassment.
The fight is real. The Spirit in you is realer. You do not fight from victory toward defeat — you fight from victory toward more victory. Christ has already won at the cross. We are just walking territory He has already claimed.
Walk it, brother. Take the ground.
