# How to Choose Christian Accountability Software

## Start with the right goal

Software doesn't set a man free. Jesus does, usually through brothers who refuse to let him hide. So the best accountability software isn't the one with the longest feature list — it's the one that keeps you **connected to real people, every day,** and that you trust enough not to uninstall in week three.

## 1. Does it connect you to real people?

A report emailed to one partner can go unread for weeks. Look for a tool built around a **group** — several men and a leader who notice when you go quiet. One partner can drift; a pack rarely does.

## 2. Is accountability daily?

Temptation is daily. Look for a simple **daily check-in** your brothers see, not only alerts when something goes wrong.

## 3. Does it protect your devices?

Look for filtering that works **on the device**, across browsers and apps, with SafeSearch enforced and alerts when something is blocked — on every device you use: phone, tablet and computer.

## 4. Does it tell someone if protection goes off?

A filter you can quietly switch off isn't accountability. Look for a **passcode** to turn it off and an alert to your group if it's disabled or removed.

## 5. Does it protect your dignity?

Ask what your partners actually see. The best tools tell them *that* you need support and *when*, not *what* you saw. Look for **no browsing history uploaded, no screenshots shared, no keystroke logging, no stealth mode, and no sale of your data.** If a tool would embarrass you to have running, you won't keep it.

## 6. Is there a path, not just a policeman?

Blocking stops the symptom. Lasting change goes after the roots: shame, wounds, identity, patterns. Look for a **curriculum**, scripture, prayer and meetings alongside the technology.

## 7. Does it care for your wife?

If you're married, your wife has been hurt too. Look for a way to **include her** if you choose — with alerts and honesty you offer — and for real care for her own healing.

## 8. Can your church be part of it?

Accountability is strongest inside a local church. Look for tools that let a church **organize small groups under it**, train leaders, and help the men in its care.

## How B.O.L.D. and Watchman measure up

B.O.L.D. was built around these questions. It's a Christian men's ministry that places men in **packs of four to six with a leader**, with daily check-ins, weekly meetings and a 52-week workbook. The **Watchman** app is free. **Watchman+** adds on-device blocking with discreet alerts to your pack, a passcode to turn it off, and an optional connection to your wife — with no browsing history uploaded, no keystroke logging and no stealth mode. Churches can organize packs and support their men directly.

## What should I look for in Christian accountability software?

Real people rather than a lone partner, a daily check-in, on-device protection on every device, an alert if protection is turned off, dignity and privacy (no browsing history shared, no stealth mode), a real curriculum, care for your wife, and a way for your church to be involved.

## Is it better to have one accountability partner or a group?

A group. One partner can drift or go quiet; a small pack of several men and a leader notices when you go silent and can reach out the same day.

## Should accountability software show my partner the websites I visit?

It doesn't need to. Knowing that you need support, and when, is enough for a brother to reach out. Showing the content adds shame and makes men less likely to keep the tool.

## Is there free Christian accountability software?

Yes. B.O.L.D.'s Watchman app is free, with daily check-ins, an accountability pack, prayer, scripture and meetings. Watchman+ adds optional device protection.

## Does accountability software work on every device?

It should. Look for protection on your phone, tablet and computer. Watchman+ runs on iPhone, iPad, Android and Mac, with Windows in an invite-only beta.
